Description

Turn a vertical space into a living display with Monstera dubia. This climbing aroid produces heart-shaped juvenile leaves with silver-green patterning and darker veins. As it climbs, the leaves press close to the support and overlap in its distinctive “shingling” habit.

Offered growing on a wooden plank in a nursery pot, as shown in our product photo. This specimen displays juvenile shingling foliage; leaf shape and appearance can change as the plant matures.

Plant & plank details

  • Botanical name: Monstera dubia
  • Common name: Shingle plant
  • Growth habit: Climbing, with foliage held against a flat support
  • Pot size: 10-inch diameter nursery pot
  • Plank size: Approximately 3.5 feet (42 inches) high × 6 inches wide

Plant care

  • Light: Bright, indirect light. Protect foliage from harsh direct sun.
  • Water: Water thoroughly when the surface of the mix begins to dry, then let excess water drain. Keep the root zone lightly moist without leaving the pot standing in water. Reduce watering as growth slows.
  • Humidity & warmth: Moderate to high humidity and a warm indoor position, away from cold drafts and heating or air-conditioning vents.
  • Growing medium: Use a loose, moisture-retentive mix with good drainage.
  • Feeding: Apply a balanced liquid houseplant fertilizer monthly during active growth, following the label directions.

Caring for the climbing plank

Keep the plank securely upright and allow the growing tip to follow its surface. If support is needed, use a loose, soft plant tie around the stem; do not puncture leaves or stems. Once the vine reaches the top, provide a taller support so it can continue climbing. Avoid pulling attached aerial roots away from the board.

What to expect

The photograph shows a plant from our collection with the background edited for presentation. Leaf count, size, markings, and minor cosmetic imperfections naturally vary. Allow your plant time to settle into its new growing conditions.

Safety: Harmful if eaten and may irritate skin or eyes. Keep out of reach of children and pets.
