Description
The Calathea genus encompasses some of the most beautiful foliage in the neotropical houseplant realm. While they may have a reputation as being high maintenance, it is actually a communicative plant that is letting its owner know its requirements. The maranta is a beautifully colored plant that requires consistently high humidity. They are often called "prayer plants" because they are foliage movers and will "dance" depending on the amount of light they receive. Calathea do decent in low light and bright, indirect light will burn the foliage. Humidity must remain relatively high, signs of a lack of humidity can include crisping edges, leaves curling and browned edges.
